It’s not easy being green

I expected to have significant differences of opinion during our IAQradio interview with Steve Ashkin the man known as the “father of green cleaning” and was pleasantly surprised to learn we have much in common and agree on most of the issues. We are both concerned about abuse of the term “natural”, green washing, and environmental scare mongering.

Steve first used green as a marketing tool to differentiate the cleaning products his firm manufactured from products made by the competition; ever since he has been involved with green cleaning products and green cleaning in both the professional and the retail sectors.

Ashkin says that green cleaning is more than cleaning products, it’s about people and the environment. Green cleaning methods also entails trapping soil with entrance mats, keeping captured soil in the efficient filters on vacuum cleaners, etc.

Steve opines that the bad press green cleaning products have gotten lately is due to poor delivery of the cleaning process rather than poor cleaning products.

Steve suggests consumers go to www.terrachoice.com to learn more about green washing
